how do i get my baby to sit on bouncer or carseat?
my baby was a preemie and was in the hospital for 4 weeks before I could bring her home. She is now 2 months old, I have to hold her constantly, nothing works, I have tried 3 types of bouncers, a swing, and a carseat. any help is appreciated.
Some preemies are like that due to a less developed nervous system. See if you can wear her in a sling. Or try swaddling, just make sure she’s not too warm. Swaddling helps make them feel secure. Also, some babies have to have something pushing on the head and feet, to feel like the womb. That’s common with preemies. See if pushing gently against the bottom of her feet help calm her so she’ll let you put her down.
Try to get her into a schedule that works for you. The nicu often doesn’t have a schedule, lights on at 3am, etc, so that can affect a preemie’s sleep patterns. I’m guessing she doesn’t go to sleep that easily.
If you decide to try “crying it out” make sure she is ready for it, that it doesn’t affect her breathing. (Sometimes they throw up from not getting in enough O2 when crying. Crying it out doesn’t work well for those preemies.) A preemie can be much different from a fullterm baby, and what works for them doesn’t always work for a preemie.
