What is the best fabric to use for cushion covers?

I want to make a cushion cover and I need a base fabric to then embroider on. Have never done this before, so I need some advice!

I would suggest a heavier cotton of some sort. It’s best, for a first project, if you go to a full-service fabric store and ask someone there which fabric she or he would recommend. Different cloth works better for different types of embroidery, so it may be a good idea to take your pattern along with you to the store when you go.
