Question about baby carriers?

I have an Infantino EuroRider and the other day my husband was wearing my son and I noticed his (my son’s) legs and feet were turning purple. Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else had this problem, and how to fix it? Thanks!

Hi
I used a Baby Bjorn (which is very similar to the one you’ve got) for my son when he was a newborn, but it was never very comfortable for him or me. I loved carrying him though, and when he was 8 weeks old I got a pouch sling – we were both much more comfortable.

You are not doing anything wrong. But I’m sorry to say that it most possibly is be because the baby carrier is not very healthy.

I can’t see the age of your son but babies under 3 months old (or before they can hold their own head) should not be in an upright position – at least not more than 45 min a day – that is including time i car seat and bouncy chairs etc. The weight of his head is too big and presses down on his spine. Thus babies under 3 mo should be carried in a cradle hold (like you would if you held him yourself). This can be done using a sling, a wrap or the like.

If you baby is more than 3 months old this carry is not as bad, but still not good. Imagine being carried around in a parachute harness for a longer period of time – not very comfortable is it? A carrier should support your baby from knee to knee – like if you sat in a chair. Try to search for Asian Baby Carrier (Mei Tais, Podegos etc) or Structured Carrier (Ergo, Patapum, Yamo, bEco). They are very healthy, and you can use them for much longer – till your baby is 2-3 years old.

Sincerely,
Trisse
