Play Place

Is there some place to play D&D online in an informal setting?
I’ve never played any kind of dice or paper based role-playing game, but the idea sort of appeals to me. Unfortunately, no one I know plays Dungeons & Dragons, so I’m kind of stuck.
I did a brief search, and all I found was an actually online game (you know, with graphics and stuff), which is what I don’t want. Is there some online place where you can play D&D?
Numerous sites offer forum-based play. I highly recommend rpol.net, which has every itineration of D&D you can think of, along with many other systems, including freeform, GURPS, Mutants and Masterminds, and World of Darkness.
The site comes with a built-in diceroller, and each game gets its own forum. Plus, the folks there are a friendly bunch, and will be more than happy to point you in the way of a good game or help you learn the rules. Check the Players Wanted thread for games currently advertising for players, or you can do a search at the bottom for specific systems and genres.
And if forum-based play isn’t what you’re looking for, Yahoo Groups has numerous games by email. Go to Groups and do a search for the system you’d like. There aren’t as many games available as on rpol, but the games are typically much longer lasting. The games I’ve joined on yahoo have all been going on for years and show no signs of letting up.

Love $7.12 It begins with a twittering of birdsong lifted from “Across the Universe.” And once the triple-tracked a capella harmonies of “Because” enter, followed by snatches from “A Hard Day’s Night” and “The End,” leading into a fired-up “Get Back,” it becomes obvious that this is far more than just another Beatles compilation. This is Love, conceived by the Fabs’ former producer George Martin and son Gile… |

Disney’s A Christmas Carol (Four-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy) $25.63 Fans of Robert Zemeckis’s brilliant special effects, and of Jim Carrey’s transformative acting abilities, will be swept away by their collaboration in the stunning A Christmas Carol. Perhaps more surprising is that Charles Dickens purists will also be impressed and captivated by this version of the oft-told tale–which is dark, complex, and in its way, uncompromising. Which is all to say that this… |

Lost: The Complete Fourth Season [Blu-ray] $27.39 Season four of Lost was a fine return to form for the series, which polarized its audience the year before with its focus on The Others and not enough on our original crash victims. That season’s finale introduced a new storytelling device–the flash-forward–that’s employed to great effect this time around; by showing who actually got off the island (known as the Oceanic Six), the viewer is able … |
