Yahoo Messenger Version 8?

I have installed Messenger 8 twice, each time after installation I find that I cannot use any system files, such as My Computer or Control Panel, every time I try to use any of those, my screen gets blanked. Has anybody got any ideas. Thanks a million. Sam
