Should a Step mother be able to ask a step child to sit in a different seat in the car without an argument?

I have a 15 year old step son that argues about everything.The other night my 8 year old was sick and we were leaving my mom’s, I asked if the step son would sit on the passenger side instead of the driver’s side, in turn he started arguing that it was stupid and everything, mind you we have about 8 inches of snow on the ground,in which I would have to walk through in order to help the sick kid with his blanket into the vehicle and no snow to walk through on the driver’s side. I told the 15 year old that I didn’t want to walk through all of the snow and tried to be nice he still argued and my husband got mad at me, he said that I should have just walked through the snow instead of asking. I am wondering if it is just me that thinks his dad should have told him to stop arguing instead of blaming me? I am at my wits end and need my man to stick up for me.

There are a number of problems with this relationship.

The teen is inconsiderate…as teens can be.

The husband is weak and would rather give the teen their way
instead of doing the right thing.

You are looking for your husband to take sides.

You need a totally new approach and outlook.

You had every right to ask the teen to move.
When the teen did not move, you should
have left the situation alone and climbed
across the seat to pick up the ill child.

Then you should have told your husband that
you expect to be treated with respect & if his
son can not comply that the disrespect will
be reciprocated.

The teen needs a taste of his own medicine.
eg. He will want something from you & you will
have to ask him to go ask his father.

The husband needs a direct conversation about
what you will and will not tolerate.

Normally, I would say that you should work on
making the relationship better with the teen.

Under the circumstances…You will need to act
accordingly because of the husband’s behavior.

You are going to have to determine whether the
husband wants to be a family, or if you are just
filling a void.

That is what it sounds like.

Your husband should respect you enough to
admonish his son’s behavior & he clearly does not.
