Sling Baby
Has anyone used a sling for carrying their baby?
I am interested in the concept of actually carrying my baby on me as opposed to a carrying a car seat all the time. So, has anyone used a sling for their baby? If so what did you use that you actually liked? I’ve seen slings and the mei tais as well as other forms of baby holdery. =) Opinions based on experience is very much appreciated.
I have a convertible car seat that never leaves the car, and I did not get a stroller until my daughter was almost 20mo. I got the stroller only grudgingly; knee problems forced me to stop the sling…
I had a mei tai, an Ergo, a Maya Wrap ring sling, a few more ring slings, a Hotslings, a leather and sheepskin front pack… Carriers are great. If I had been limited to one I would’ve got just the Ergo. Second choice: Maya Wrap.
Some of my happiest memories are of my daughter taking most of her naps on me when she was around 3-6 months old. Delightful. I loved hauling her around like that. And it made her a really low-fuss baby, and all that carrying meant she had no problems being put down when I did need to put her down.
People lugging their infants around in hard plastic casings look ridiculous, and I always feel sorry for the babies, who thrive on human contact. Before our daughter was born her Dad and I looked quite a bit at babies in public and noticed that EVERY baby who was fussing or crying was in a car seat or stroller, and ALL babies in slings were content. Look around and you’ll probably notice the same deal. I can’t say enough good things about slings &c.
