Tai Padded

is it worth it to keep training?
i’ve been doing martial arts for along time. Recently got a kidney transplant and i’ve been told i’m not allowed to do contact sports. I asked if i could still do tai chi or do my kung fu forms at a slow pace which is good that i can at least do something but in a real fight they arent going to go slow hahaha. But the specialist said yes but i’m not allowed to be hit or even hit pads is the twisting from the waist and also the impact of hitting the pads could shock the muscle area and harm the kidney at training they do alot of pad work, fighting applications, then they do forms at the end of class so going to class might not be ideal i was thinking private classes they can be $50 a lesson though but i could go through the forms and the applications and weapons training slowly. i would just like to know what other people would do if they had this choice?
Ok first thing im going to say is i can completely relate. I was training in capoiera before i had my first kidney transplant back when i was 17… Afterwards they told me the same exact thing… But they didnt say anything about about side movements being a problem, i just had to avoid getting hit there… However after going back to and training i just stopped training with others… I think i was too nervous…
Anyway i lost that kidney due to unforseen circumstances, and know im on my second transplant… I have recently decided to start training again much more seriously than i ever have before… I think that if your own movements could cause injury to the kidney, I would assume its because your core muscles are not strong enough. Which is very possible, especially if the transplant is recent, Ive noticed that those muscles become very weak after the surgery…
While i have yet to figure out a way around getting hit in my abdomen (besides hoping im fast enough to defend it). I still believe that training myself is important. And in the event of a serious/unavoidable altercation I would be willing to risk the life of the kidney to protect someone else’s life or my own overall life (even though dialysis sucks).
So yes in my opinion i think it is worth it. You probably just have to make some changes to your training.
On top of that training keeps me healthy and in shape and (assuming i dont get hit real hard in the area) the life of the kidney will hopefully be much longer because i take care of myself =).
