Toddler Harness
why do some people frown on the use of reins or a harness for toddlers?
What is the objection to their use?
Do you use them? Do you refuse to use them? What are your reasons?
I use the backpack harness on my daughter in large crowded places like the zoo, shopping mall, etc. I usually take her stroller as well, but she gets tired of sitting and wants to walk a bit, so I use the harness because she has a tendency to want to run off as soon as we let her down, she’s 16 months and totally does not want to hold our hand. And its not like she runs a bit ahead and then stops to look back, when she runs, she doesn’t stop, she keeps going, and in a large crowd its easy to get lost. It works really well for us and she love’s wearing it (its the Minnie Mouse back pack), she even likes wearing the back pack by itself (without the lead), so she has no problem with it what so ever. I have never had a problem with parents using them, I think it keeps a child safe and it allows you to control where they go.
I was just in Target and I had my daughter in a cart going down the baby section and 2 girls were looking at the backpack harnesses on the shelf. One was considering buying one for her toddler and the other was criticizing her, saying that her chid wasn’t a dog and that when she had children they would not wear a leash. I was passing by them and the other that was so objective said “look, she has her baby in the cart like a child, not on a leash like a dog”, I was quick to say that I owned a harness myself and that once she had kids her opinion may change of them. I told the mother considering buying the harness that it really came in handy and that my daughter loves hers. She put one in their cart and told the other girl she was buying one anyway. Just thought I would share my experience with people being objective to harnesses.
