My 5 1/2 month old has out grown his cradle swing and wont sleep in a crib…?

He likes the swinging motion and the lights that are on top of the swing. What else can he sleep in? He screams when we put him in his crib.

Try using a rocking chair to rock and sooth your baby until he is very sleepy. Also, put a night light in his room if he does not have one. Bottom line, babies will go to sleep, even if they have to cry themselves to sleep the first few times. Unfortunately, it is much more difficult for you to listen to him cry than it is for him.

I suggest that you calm him before you put him in his crib. With the lights dimmed down, pat him gently and sing to him if he seems agitated when you put him down. Then, quietly leave the room. It may take two or three nights for him to learn to soothe himself so he can sleep, but he will figure it out.

By the way, I agree with the recommendation to get Dr. Weissbluth’s book. I’ve given it to several parents struggling with baby sleep problems, and those who followed his recommendations solved the problems in just a few days. His methods work!
